Editor's note
WPP plc is headquartered in London and listed on the London Stock Exchange (LSE:WPP) with a sponsored ADR on NYSE. 2024 group revenue was £14.7bn and revenue less pass-through costs was £11.4bn, with a headline operating profit margin of 15.0%. Headcount sits at roughly 108-110k people across operations in more than 100 countries. The group was founded as Wire and Plastic Products plc in 1971 and built into a marketing-services holding by Sir Martin Sorrell from 1985. Mark Read led the company from 2018 until 1 September 2025, when Cindy Rose, formerly Chief Operating Officer of Global Enterprise at Microsoft, took over as Chief Executive Officer. 9 of the 818 UK agencies on AgencyIndex sit under WPP, covering the full network stack. Creative and brand are represented by Ogilvy, VML (formed January 2023 from the merger of Wunderman Thompson and VMLY&R), AKQA, and Grey. Media is represented by Mindshare, Wavemaker, and Essence Global (now EssenceMediacom), all of which trade under the WPP Media umbrella after the May 2025 rebrand from GroupM. Healthcare media is represented by CMI Media Group, which opened its London global hub in 2023. Independent digital sits in the form of Equator, the Glasgow-headquartered digital transformation agency. Burson (formed July 2024 from BCW and Hill+Knowlton) is the group's main PR brand and trades in London; it is not currently surfaced in the index taxonomy but is part of the same parent. What is shifting in 2026 is structural. Cindy Rose's Elevate28 plan, announced in February 2026 alongside the 2025 preliminary results, is taking WPP from a federated holding-company shape to four operating divisions: WPP Creative (Ogilvy, VML, AKQA, Burson, Grey, Landor), WPP Media (the former GroupM stack), WPP Production (the rebranded Hogarth, from January 2026), and WPP Enterprise Solutions. The target is £500m of annualised gross cost savings by 2028, against around £400m of restructuring spend, and individual agency P&L accountability is being lifted up to the division level. Q3 2025 trading was -3.5% like-for-like, the UK alone was -8.9%, and full-year guidance was cut to -5.5% to -6.0% revenue less pass-through, with pressure concentrated on WPP Media, VML, and AKQA. That sets the context for everything the group does in the UK over the next two years.

When to engage
5 signals
engaging WPP makes sense
  • · FTSE 100, multinational, or global multi-market brief that needs a single P&L across creative, media, PR, and production
  • · Enterprise procurement requires a holding-group framework agreement, ISBA-aligned contracts, principal-trading disclosure, and audit rights at scale
  • · Brief is AI- and data-led at enterprise scale and benefits from a single platform layer (WPP Open, Choreograph, the Google partnership, the InfoSum data collaboration stack)
  • · Production at scale is part of the brief: localisation across many markets, asset versioning, retail-media creative output, currently delivered through WPP Production (formerly Hogarth)
  • · Healthcare or life-sciences media brief that needs MLR and regulatory experience plus full-funnel media planning (CMI Media Group from the London global hub)
